In terms of your things, what does your space (studio/office/living area) look like?
I try very hard to be organized, but I have to do a lot of different things in one place so piles do grow and grow… especially during the school year (I teach songwriting and music history classes). So I have to find space for arts and craft projects, for all the music gear and instruments and teaching stuff as well. All that in one room.
I usually use ziploc bags and transparent plastic boxes or envelopes to organize what I have.
Where do you normally get your things?
I love thriftstores, flea markets, hardware stores, obscure dollar stores and old school stationary places, outdoor gear places (there is no such thing as having too many carabiners or pocket knifes), jewelry stores and music stores of course. I also keep some things I find in the streets.
What is your prize possession/”thing”/collectible/tool?
Here’s my top 5
My Parker fountain pen (rare 80s model)
My gold locket and special charms (Always around my neck)
My ukulele
My pocket knife
My ipod touch
All of them portable small things. For some reason I always want to be able to carry those essentials everywhere. As if I had to flee some galloping plague or disaster…I don’t know why. I guess I just love adventure and travelling..
day 206 – four decorative pillows
Posted: June 19, 2011 Filed under: Sarah Baird Leave a comment »The secret garden, sunroom-cozy atmosphere I’ve built for myself in the Bouligny neighborhood of New Orleans relies heavily on the use of a multitude of brightly colored, mismatched pillows scattered over comfy nooks and crannies inside the historic corners of my home.
My favorite, of course, is the tapir-shaped pillow, which is child-like in its whimsy but punchy with its bold hues.
