studio for painting drawing and sculpture: the walls are covered with ephemera, old images of things i like, photographs, notations, failures, etc. the floor is covered with excess paper from collage cuttings, plaster, paint, dust, and most of the actual floor is not visible at this point.

office – which is also the space i work with sound: three walls are covered with bookshelves holding books, records, cds. still, there are also piles of books, records, cds all over the floor. my photograph collection is scattered in piles on bookshelves in front of books, and it is likely that eventually the floor will only be revealed in the form of the line running from the door to my desk… it is somewhat of a chaotic mess, and please don’t ever ask me to find a specific book or record, because it is not organized.

living area: the shelves are mostly covered with pottery by chicago bauhaus ceramacist eugene detuch, and the coffee table is piled with books, as is its underneath area (its “subscape” as george nelson would call it). in truth it is probably chaos by most people’s standards but much less cluttered than the studio or office…).

in terms of what it looks like, well, kind of unlike anything else, as it is a small experimental concrete dome built in 1946, so we have few straight walls to hang pictures on, and not much storage space, but it is quite wonderful to be living in a house of the future that was built in the past…

Where do you normally get your things?
the usual places… flea markets, used bookstores, ebay, through friends, auctions, etc.

What is your prize possession/”thing”/collectible/tool?
4 things with equal value: my father’s guitar, a tiny maquette of a sculpture made by harry bertoia, a drawing by rm schindler, a sculpture made for me by my grandmother called “the sounds of space”. (i should also mention my most prized possession that was taken away from me – my grandfather’s violin, which i was forced to give to my aunt and uncle…)
